The Old Liberal is amazed at the nature of the attacks on his positions from those who proudly proclaim their ignorance and happiness at being a "red-neck." In addition, only they know what is best for America. They throw out smears like "..you sound like a commie (sic) to me.." or they use vile names to smear Mrs. Clinton, John Kerry, or anyone who disagrees with their stone-age mentality.

TOL just loves the "discussions" when the ignorant right resorts to epithats because it indicates the level of their mentality. Or it illustrates the total lack of understanding of their "positions." "Only Republicans" can protect America. "Democrats lost Vietnam." There's a dandy. Apparently they have never heard of Richard Nixon who succeeded LBJ who chose not to run for another term. But the facts never bother the ignoramusus of the right--those loveable Neanderthals of the Stone Age Republicans.

What ever happened to the depth of intellence of the Republican Party as represented by the late Sen. Barry Goldwater, Rep. Dirkson, or Gov. Rockefeller? Would they recognize the 53 million zealots who voted for W in '04 or who assisted in the stolen election of 2000? They would not, but because those moderates and true conservatives have been driven FROM their party.

What a pity!!!! The old days of thoughtful deliberation and disagreement, and then compromise have been repaced by vitriolic attacks, the smear campaigns and mud slinging of Karl Rove, and his "red neck" followers.

How can one boast so proudly of being an ignorant American? TOL can't understand the hatred that has overtaken the Grand Old Party. It must the the fault of the southern temperatures--TOL can't explain it anymore. Doesn't anyone in the South or "Heartland" think in thoughtful terms anymore? Where has the intelligent debate gone?

Anyway, red-necks are still welcome in spite of our differences. For, unlike them, TOL still believes we are all Americans regardless of IQ, race, religion, geography, or whatever.

WITHER THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

THE OLD LIBERAL RAMBLINGS:
The fall 2006 elections will be upon us shortly. What will the Democratic Party offer the voters this fall? Will it be another leaderless, meandering,election? Will the Party "leaders" actually offer a plan to the undecided voters and those who might want to return to the party after going astray and voting for Bush? Will it be possible to "Nationalize" the fall elections and take back the House? And also, the Senate?
These questions have to be answered for the Party will be so marginalized that it may never recover the stature that F.D.R. and Harry S. Truman, Kennedy, and Clinton lifted it too.

The Republicans have made such a mess of everything they have touched that it should be a "no brainer" that the House and Senate should be recaptured.

But, can the Democrats get it together? Are Reid and Polosi the answers? Can they supply the message that is needed? Has Dean not alienated everyone? His message is a great message, but too broad, and the messenger is not widely listened too even in his own party. Sometimes, the issues are stated too broadly.

I would think most Americans are in favor of "the environment." Most Americans abhoar the corruption in the Republican Party and the arrogance and incompetence of the current Administration.

Most Americans understand the lack of planning in the Iraqi war and the subsequent disaster of "winning the peace." Most Americans understand the port issue--the immigration issue--the issue of torturing prisoners of war--abusing prisoners of war.They also undertand that we entered this fiasco based on a platform of lie after lie. Rummsfeld has lied so often he can't keep track of them and lies about his lies.

Most Americans not only realize and understand, but also fear the economic oasis the country faces. The economists who believe that the "numbers" are very good, do not pump their own gas, do not shop for their own groceries, do not worry about escaliting interest rates, do not face the fact that the American middle class has been destroyed. These ivory tower economists don't face a loss of benefits, spiraling co-pays for their health insurance or the outright loss of health insurance.

These economists and their rose-colored glasses are not facing the fact that a loss of one paycheck could mean losing everything one owns. Or that our good factory jobs have left the country, leaving only service industries behind. They don't understand that most Americans are at the very least uneasy if not downright afraid of the economic uncertainties that are looking the nation in the eye.

These are the issues that face the Democratic Party. These are the issues the party must address instead of speaking in broad sweeping generalizations. "I am for education!" Well, big friggin deal--who isn't? Let's be specific. Let's show American what "Every child left behind" has done to the America's education system.

Let's also show them how the greedy oil barrons want to drill and destroy a pristine Artic area for a measily few barells. If you want to talk enviornment, talk about the damage this administration has done.

Damn, this is not rocket science people. Let's talk about the issues that are terrifying Americans. The issues that the Democratic Party must confront.How much longer will America take from an arrogant power-crazed fanatical right wing agenda?
When will America wake to fact that we fact creeping corporate fascism? Those hob-nailed boots now belong to Chency, Rummsfeld, Rice, and the merry band of corporate Nazis taking over this country. Damnit America, WAKE UP!!!

How Many Times Must W Cry Wolf?

Today, and once again, the president reminded the nation that we are at "war"--a war by the way that he blundered into making a total mockery of the bravery of our troops, who are being mismanaged by the incompetent Sec. of Defense, Rumsfeld.

Again, like the boy who cried wolf, the president raised the issue of terrorism in defense of the indefensable invasion of America's private phone conversations. Whenever a crisis, furor, or another Bushdisaster is blundered into by W, the administration raises the fear level of America. How many times can this incompetent poor excuse for a president, raise the spector of terror? How many times before the American public ignores the tin-horn from Texas? This administration has repeatedly prayed upon the country's fears to run from another self-created disaster.
When will this country learn---everytime it screws up the adminstration will raise the level. When will the country wake up to the fact that the Bush-Cheny cartel has NO PLAN in ANY area in this country be it Iraq, the economy, jobs (joke?), terrorism, Iran, and on and on. The list of mishandling is breathtaking in its scope. A scope that defies imagination.
The Old Liberal truly believes that just prior to the November elections of '06, another "incident" will take place, raising the public's fear again, thus ensuring a Repubilican Congress who will again rubber stamp Bush's further destruction of the Constitution.
Americans need to remember their high school civics and political science classes. The Constitution was something to protect from the tyranny of people like Bush, Cheny, and the rest of the arrogant rabble that compose their cabal.

The Constitution should be the most revered document in the National Archives. It was hammered out through experience such as Valley Forge, Shiloh, and Ft. Sumter. It survived the "Red Scare" of the 1920s under the demagogue Attorney General Palmer. It survived that attacks by another demogague in the 1950s--Sen. Joe Mcarthy. That prescious document survided two world wars, the Korean War, and the disastorous Vietnam experience. But, under the present attack, the Old Liberal deeply believes it may not survive the Bush gang's frontal attack and even worse the country's apathy while the Bill of Rights is being desecrated and destroyed by the D.C. thugs.
The Old Liberal grieves the loss of America's rights. Trampled to death by a group of corporate fascists while the rest of the country slept. Too bad--it WAS A NOBLE EXPERIMENT.

The old liberal wants to know how much longer will America tolerate this administration's "misinformation", deception, smearing any critic, outing of CIA operatives and classified information for political gains, and total incompetence?
If we look back to the famous "Mission Accomplished" staged TV event, how many of our brave warriors have been killed by the incompetence of the current Sec. of Defense--"Rummy" (well-named)?
If we look back to Bush's appearance in New Orleans,when he promised aid and money does anyone recall "Good job Brownie?"
If we look back to Bush's "bring it on..." how many have died in this immoral war? If we look back at Bush's energy plan--secretly designed by the energy moguls and VP Oil Can Dick, what is the current price of gas in your community?
If we look back at the Medicare Drug fiasco--ask your senior citizen friends and relatives, how easily they navigated the maze of companies and plans available, and if they somehow did that, what was the cost of the drug, compared to the old plan. This old Democrat's co-pay ain't what they used to be!!!!
